Netflix has delighted fanswith the first full-length trailer for The Crown season 5, teasing a tumultuous time for the royals from the Windsor castle fire to Princess Diana’s headline-making Panorama interview.

Anticipation for the new season of the royal drama is at an all-time high it will depict the last years of Princess Diana’s life. It will premieres in early November.

The trailer shows that the Royal Family is in crisis. Not only because of the scandal surrounding Princess Diana’s (Elizabeth Debicki) and Prince Charles’ (Dominic West) divorce but also because the world has changed dramatically as television evolves and the role of the monarchy in the modern world comes into question.

The trailer makes it clear that the new season will be a touching tribute to Prince William and Harry’s mom Diana and how difficult her final months were, from the scenes depicting the incessant harassment from paparazzi and news outlets to Diana herself lamenting that she “never stood a chance.” 

It shows Imelda Staunton, as Queen Elizabeth II, at the castle following the fire. Later, West, as the then-Prince of Wales, is seen sharing his desire for a more modern monarchy.

I also confirms that the new season will cover the interview the Princess of Wales gave to Panorama in 1995, and also shows Debicki recreating the late royal’s appearance at a Serpentine Gallery party where Diana wore an outfit that was later nicknamed the “revenge dress”.
