The US Central Command says 23 American troops have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury following a series of attacks that targeted the United States’ illegal bases in Syria last month.

“We have identified 11 additional cases of mild Traumatic Brain Injury from the March 23rd and 24th attacks in eastern Syria,” it said in a statement on Friday. “Twenty-three of those wounded and assessed as mTBI cases. Our medical teams continue to assess and evaluate our troops for indications of mTBI,” it added.

The attacks saw 20 rockets being fired against two illegal bases belonging to American occupation forces in eastern Syria, killing an American contractor.

Twenty-five US troops were wounded as a result of the strikes in Syria, which also reportedly injured another American contractor too.

Hours earlier, the US occupation forces had reportedly staged a deadly attack against civilian targets based in the eastern Syrian province of Dayr al-Zawr.

The attack had led to some fatalities as well as some injuries, Iran’s Arabic-language television news network al-Alam reported at the time, citing Iran’s military advisory support center in the Arab country that has been set up there at Damascus’ request.

Subsequent to the attack, an Iranian security official warned that the Islamic Republic would give a prompt response to any pretext for an attack on bases inside Syria that have been established at the Syrian government’s request for the purpose of fighting terrorism.

Keyvan Khosravi, spokesman for Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), issued the warning on March 25 after American officials claimed that Iran had been involved in the attacks on illegal US bases inside the Syrian territory.

Khosravi said the US was trying to level accusations against Iran by pursuing a blame game policy and evading the consequences of its illegal occupation of a part of Syria’s territory, adding that such claims were not true.

“Washington cannot attribute the natural and legal confrontation of the occupied countries with the US military forces to other countries by creating artificial crises and lying,” the Iranian security official emphasized at the time.
