Michael Oher was paid over $138,000 for his rights to The Blind Side, based on a recent court filing from the Tuohy family who was guardian of Oher starting from 2006.

According to court records acquired by People on Wednesday, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy paid the former NFL player, whose story served as the inspiration for the Oscar-nominated movie, $138,311.01 in 10 payments over a 16-year period starting in 2007.

In a court filing on August 14, the former NFL player claimed that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy had misled him about the nature of a conservatorship when they forced him to sign one at the age of 18. The Tuohy family, along with their two kids, “collectively received millions of dollars and Michael received nothing for his rights” to the movie, the retired NFL player claimed.

The petition on Wednesday states that Oher was paid the remaining $8,480,10 on April 17, 2023.

“After a 10% commission was paid, one-third of this sum was given to Michael Oher by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy,” the filing states. “Checks for 2021 and 2022 have not cleared the Tuohy’s bank accounts.”

The latest filing includes bank statements and other proof that the Tuohys paid Oher, along with tax records from Alcon Film Fund LLC to Sean at the Creative Artists Agency.

At the age of 18, Oher executed a conservatorship agreement in 2004 giving the Tuohy family financial power. He was playing high school football and living with the family at the time.

In his petition from August, Oher claimed that the Tuohy family—which included Leigh Anne and Sean’s two biological children, Collins Tuohy and Sean Tuohy Jr.—had profited from the movie, which was based on the same-titled 2006 book and featured the Tuohy family adopting Oher and supporting him in the classroom and at school.

The four family members reportedly received $225,000 for the movie plus 2.5% of the box office receipts, according to the former Baltimore Ravens player. His lawyer, J. Gerard Stranch IV, told ESPN that he later found out he was the only one in the family not getting paid in royalties from the movie.

Alcon Entertainment, the company that produced The Blind Side, and the Tuohys have both refuted that assertion. According to a statement sent to People, Oher and the four Tuohy family members received compensation totaling around $767,000 from their talent agency for The Blind Side.

Oher’s request to end his conservatorship with the couple was approved in September.

At the box office, the 2009 film brought in $330 million, and it has subsequently generated more money.
