Bone broth is packed with vitamins and minerals that are great for the skin 

Bone broth is highly regarded as Hollywood’s liquid gold as A-listers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kylie Jenner incorporate the gelatinous soup by the cupful in their diets.

But why is drinking soup all the rage?

It turns out that bone broth is an elixir filled with good-for-you nutrients that can give you much more benefits than your traditional chicken noodle soup.

Boiled for hours, the bones and cartilage of an animal break down to release collagen and other nutrients which is the fortified with other skin and gut-boosting ingredients like herbs, spices and vegetables to make a nourishing and flavourful soup.

As per science, bones contain calcium, magnesium and potassium, which are needed to sustain the health of our own bones.

Additionally, the collagen-packed broth is a powerful concoction for the hair, skin and nails not to mention that it is rich with vitamin B12 and vitamin D that helps boost immunity.

How to drink bone broth

While bone broth is a superfood of its own kind, registered nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert insisted that one should not expect it to act as a substitute for entire meals but consume it in between other meals. 

“Variety in our diet is key so it is really important to have different foods and meals during the week but variations of favourite dishes are a good way to mix things up,’ Lambert said as per Women’s Health Mag.”

“Why not include bone broth in your diet as part of your main meal or even a comforting hot drink between mealtimes?” 

How to make bone broth

Bone broth is primarily made with animal bones like beef, chicken or fish and is boiled with a lot of water.

Below is a standard recipe to make a scrumptious bone broth at home. 

Ingredients:

1000g of organic bones (beef, chicken, fish, turkey etc)

4 medium onions chopped

½ tbsp salt

½ pepper

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

4 cloves of finely chopped garlic

Enough water to submerge all the ingredients

Fresh herbs to garnish as per taste

Method:

1. Place the bones, onion, garlic, spices and vinegar in a saucepan and add enough water to cover.

2. Cover the pot and keep the flame on low.

3. Let it simmer for at least 4 hours.

4. When finished garnish it with fresh herbs.

5. Cool and enjoy immediately or portion and freeze.
