Bill Belichick and the Patriots have amicably decided to part ways as the NFL coach’s era comes to an end.

It concludes a 24-year tenure as the Patriots’s head coach, during which time the team achieved a historic six Super Bowl victories.

It also concludes with Belichick’s poorest season as a coach, a dismal 4-13 record in 2023—a season in which the Patriots barely resembled the team from the past.

It is still unknown when Belichick’s coaching career will end, thus it remains to be seen when he will get a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 

As soon as Belichick becomes a viable contender for one of the seven remaining head-coaching positions in the NFL, several owners will undoubtedly be intrigued by the idea of having Belichick give their teams immediate legitimacy.

Belichick is the only NFL head coach in history to have won 13 or more games in seven different seasons. With three, George Seifert comes next.

He won the Super Bowl for eight times. It includes six with the New England Patriots (2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018) and two as an assistant with the New York Giants (1986, 1990). He is the only head coach in NFL history with six Super Bowl triumphs.
