Iran is set to host the 63rd Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) on Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the capital Tehran on July 3-4, 2024.

Iran is set to host the 63rd Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) on Preventing and Countering Terrorism.

The regional conference will be held on July 3-4 at the Institute of Political and International Studies of the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry in the capital Tehran.

The meeting will start with speeches by representatives from AALCO, the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the African Union, and experts from various AALCO member countries.

The conference consists of four major topics, including “Prevention and Counter-Terrorism: From Theory to Action”, “The Role of International and Regional Organizations in Preventing and Countering Terrorism”, “The Responsibility of States and Individuals Concerning Terrorism”, and “Regional Cooperation in Preventing and Countering Terrorism”.

During the event, the international legal perspectives of AALCO member countries, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran, on preventing and combating terrorism will be clarified.

Various aspects of combating and thwarting terrorism from the perspective Asian and African nations will also be discussed.

AALCO, originally known as the Asian Legal Consultative Committee (ALCC), is an inter-governmental organization that was founded on 15 November 1956 with seven Asian states as its first members.

AALCO has presently 48 members comprising of the major states from Asia and Africa. Two-thirds of the world’s population lives in AALCO member states.

Back in 2014, Iran held an AALCO meeting where topics such as laws of the sea, rights of refugees and migrants, economic sanctions, latest developments in Palestine, as well as international trade laws and sustainable development were discussed.
