The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas is wining in the besieged Gaza Strip and cannot be defeated despite Israel’s upper hand on a tactical level, says a senior Israeli general.

In an interview with The New York Times published on Tuesday, Major General Gadi Shamni, a former commander of the Israeli military’s Gaza division, stressed that Hamas is winning the war, while the Tel Aviv regime is losing, “and in a big way.”

He added that while Hamas’s military capabilities have certainly diminished, the movement continues to hold authority over Gaza, stressing that Hamas fighters have been retaking towns across the blockaded territory “15 minutes” after Israeli troops withdrew from them. 

According to the Time’s report, Shamni is not alone in this assessment, which is shared by some current and former Israeli security officials who do not see the defeat of Hamas as a possibility.

They stress that the Tel Aviv regime is losing the war, deterrence and its captives.

Separately on Tuesday, the American broadcaster ABC News, quoted an unnamed A senior military official as saying that Israel “is losing the war.”

The official also warned against launching a war on Lebanon, saying war there “is easy to start, but very hard to end.”

ABC News also cited other unnamed Israeli military officials as saying that Israel is “stuck” in Gaza and unable to achieve its war objectives. 

Israel waged its brutal US-backed war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

However, nearly a year into the genocidal aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its declared objectives of “destroying Hamas” and finding Israeli captives despite killing at least 41,252 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 95,497 others.
