Israel has carried out a new air raid on Syria, injuring at least two civilians in the western port city of Latakia.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Syrian Defense Ministry said the Israeli enemy launched the aerial assault at about 2:50 a.m. local time from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea.

The strike hit a location near Latakia’s southeastern entrance, left material damage in the area and wounded two civilians, it added.

“At approximately 2:50 AM today, the “israeli” enemy launched an aerial aggression from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, targeting one of the points near the southeastern entrance to the city of Latakia, which resulted in the injury of two civilians and material damage to the surrounding private property,” it said.

Syrian media said firefighters were extinguishing the fires caused by the attack, noting that the country’s air defenses had confronted Israeli targets over Latakia.

Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.

The Tel Aviv regime rarely comments on its attacks on Syrian territories, which many see as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s phenomenal success in confronting and decimating terrorism.

Damascus has time and again called on the UN Security Council to put an end to the regime’s attacks that violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Israeli airstrikes on Syria come amid the regime’s ongoing two-front aggression that has killed more than 42,400 people in the Gaza Strip and 2,360 others in Lebanon since early October 2023.
