Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says Iran’s ability to defend its interests will not be affected by the comings and goings of other countries’ presidents.
Qalibaf made the remarks during an open parliamentary session on Sunday, a few days after Donald Trump was elected as the new president of the United States.
He said that there are “meaningful differences” in the way that the US presidents show their hostility towards the Islamic Republic, adding, however, that the issue depends on Iran’s national power.
“The main point is that what determines the enemy’s behavior towards us is the national power and the authoritative conduct and intelligence of the Islamic Republic based on its approach of revolutionary rationality,” he added.
“The coming and going of the presidents of other states will have no effects on our country’s ability to secure its interests as we see fit, as long as we rely on our domestic power, and Iranian thought and will.”
Qalibaf also stressed that Iran’s internal power, which comes from the power of the nation and its indomitable resolve, prompts world powers to consider the nation’s interests in their decisions.
He also urged Iranian officials to enhance Iran’s defensive strength and solve economic problems to boost the country’s deterrence in the face of threats and pressure.
