Iran says the US’s performance regarding regional issues and the Israeli regime’s crimes in Gaza and Lebanon as well as its actions toward Tehran are more important than the country’s election result.

“What is important and related to our region is the United States’ performance regarding the region and Iran,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at his weekly press conference on Monday.

He added that the US has continued its hostile policies towards Iran over the past four years.

“We all know that the main reasons for the continuation and expansion of the Zionist regime’s crimes are the US support for this regime, sending arms and preventing the adoption of any resolution against this regime in international forums,” he emphasized.

The Iranian spokesperson expressed hope that the new US administration would prevent an escalation of war and that the American statesmen learn from the ongoing situation in the region and stick to their promises.

US officials making baseless claims

In response to a question about allegations of Iran’s involvement in a plot to assassinate former and current US officials, including President-elect Donald Trump, Baghaei said it is regrettable that the American officials spend their time and energy to make claims that have no basis.

The Iranian spokesman described the issue as “a kind of minelaying” in relations between the countries with the aim of making the path forward for their successors difficult.

He also pointed to the US claims about respecting Iran and said, “Respect has a specific meaning in international relations… The meaning of respect is respect for laws, which is necessary for living together with peace.”

Germany’s measures harming Iranian nationals

Baghaei said the German government’s “unjustified” measure to shut the missions of the Islamic Republic and deprive Iranians of consular services after the death of a German-Iranian convicted terrorist are harming Iranian nationals living in the European country.

He added that a number of Iranian representative offices near the Iranian consulates in the cities of Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich are providing consular services.

Israel used science, technology to advance genocide in Palestine

The Iranian spokesman further said the Israeli regime has been using science and technology in recent years to advance genocide against Palestinians, which is an example of a war crime.

“The region witnessed the continuation of aggression and genocide in Gaza and Lebanon last week,” he said.

Baghaei expressed Iran’s solidarity with the Lebanese government and nation in the fight against the Israeli regime.

OIC-Arab League summit opportunity to express views

The Iranian diplomat said the emergency meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is expected to begin in the Saudi capital Riyadh later on Monday, will be an opportunity to express views about the ongoing Israeli crimes.

“The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has a high capacity to mobilize the international community against the dangers of the continuation of the Israeli regime’s genocide and crimes,” Baghaei added.

He noted that the United Nations is the only world body that has the capability of taking effective measures to counter Israel’s criminal acts but unfortunately, it has been paralyzed from any action.

Some countries have called for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations, he said.

Iran has constant interaction with IAEA

Referring to UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi’s plan to visit Iran in the coming days, Baghaei said the trip will take place in line with the continuation of interactions and dialogues between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

“As a member country of NPT (the Non-Proliferation Treaty) with a peaceful nuclear program, we have continuous relations with the IAEA. These meetings can help improve interaction and collaboration,” he added.
