Russia’s Defense Ministry says its air forces have destroyed dozens of Ukrainian drones over five regions in the country.

The ministry said in a post on Telegram on Sunday that at least 42 drones were shot down overnight.

One attack triggered a fire at a fuel infrastructure facility in the village of Stalnoi Kon, said Andrei Klychkov, the governor of Oryol.

He said, “Thanks to the quick response, the consequences of the attack were avoided – the fire was promptly localized and is now fully extinguished.”

“There were no casualties or significant damage.”

There were no casualties in the other regions either, according to the authorities.

On Saturday, Ukraine attacked residential buildings in the central Russian city of Kazan, which prompted a response from President Vladimir Putin on Sunday.

The Russian president vowed to bring more “destruction” to Ukraine in retaliation for the attack.

“Whoever, and however much they try to destroy, they will face many times more destruction themselves and will regret what they are trying to do in our country,” he said.

Putin has previously warned that the country’s air forces will target the center of the Ukrainian capital Kiev with a hypersonic ballistic missile in response to an attack on Russian soil.

On Friday, a new report published by Bloomberg said that Ukraine will eventually be forced to make territorial concessions to settle the conflict with Russia.
