Iran has condemned the deadly Israeli attack on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza as “a heinous war crime” and part of the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian lands, describing the silence of relevant international institutions on the matter as “unjustifiable.”

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in a statement released on Saturday, denounced the brutal Israeli raid on the medical facility and significant destruction to the vast majority of its wards as the latest example of a war crime, a crime against humanity, and a gross violation of international law and principles.

He stated that the atrocity was perpetrated with the aim of completely destroying the healthcare system in Gaza, and depriving children, women, injured people and patients of access to the slightest medical service.

Baghaei underscored that Kamal Adwan Hospital was among the last functioning medical centers in northern Gaza, terming the Israeli military’s attack on the hospital and forced evacuation of patients and medical staff as “a heinous war crime and part of the ongoing mass murder in occupied Palestine.”

The senior Iranian diplomat slammed the silence of relevant international institutions regarding the crime as “unjustifiable,” noting that responsibility rests upon them to take appropriate action.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Israeli military’s storming of the Kamal Adwan Hospital has put the last functional health facility in northern Gaza out of service and key departments were destroyed by fire during the raid.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health also said Israeli forces have taken dozens of Kamal Adwan Hospital staffers, including its director, Hussam Abu Safia, for interrogation.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against the occupying entity in response to its intensified violence against Palestinians.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed 45,736 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 108,038 others. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.

Israel’s military has systematically blocked the entry of lifesaving food, medicine, medical supplies, fuel, and tents into the besieged Palestinian territory since October 2023.

More than one year into the Tel Aviv regime’s campaign of death and destruction, the territory’s critical infrastructure such as water networks, sanitation facilities and bread mills has all been razed to the ground.
