An attack by members of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group against the shrine of Sayyida Zainab – the granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) and sister of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam – on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus has been repelled.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing an unnamed source in the General Intelligence Service, reported that the intelligence agency under the ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) administration, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Security in Damascus suburbs, could successfully thwart the Daesh attempt to bomb the sacred site on Saturday.
The source added that many individuals were arrested in connection with the major criminal act targeting the Syrian people.
SANA also published pictures of the terror elements, who were planning to carry out the terrorist attack.
Militants, led by HTS, took control of Damascus on December 8 and declared an end to Assad’s rule in a surprise offensive that was launched from their stronghold in northwestern Syria, reaching the capital in less than two weeks.
The situation in the Arab country remains fluid and fragile, amid the ongoing political instability.
