Israel has dropped investigation against five soldiers indicted for killing a fighter of the Palestinian Hamas resistance group, who was captured in the early days of the regime’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Attorney General Amit Isman announced on Monday that the case against Roi Yifrach, Yisrael Biton, Sahar Ofir, Akiva Kaufman and Israel Peretz was closed, citing what he called lack of guilt.

He claimed that the soldiers’ confessions to the murder of the Palestinian fighter were false and mere bragging.

As part of interrogations in another case in November 2023, Ofir said Yifrach showed him a video in which he was seen stabbing a handcuffed Palestinian in the face until he was killed.

Both Yifrach and Ofir had admitted in WhatsApp messages that they had killed Palestinian fighters not in combat, with the latter acknowledging sexual abuse.

Israel launched its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel was forced to agree to a ceasefire after it failed to achieve its declared objectives despite killing more than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza.

The occupation forces have posted videos on social media platforms, showing them – often gleefully – committing war crimes against Palestinians.

In October 2024, the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) —named after the six-year-old Palestinian girl who was tragically killed  — filed a formal complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) against 1,000 Israeli soldiers for war crimes in the besieged Gaza Strip.
