A pro-Palestine campaigner and human rights activist has been arrested and charged in the self-governing British island country of Jersey for defending Palestinians in their decades-long fight against the Israeli occupation.
Natalie Strecker was charged on Tuesday with two offenses claiming to be “inviting support for a proscribed organization” under Jersey’s Terrorism Law 2002.
Strecker, who has been involved with the Jersey Palestine Solidarity Campaign as a rights advocate, said she was left in “complete disbelief” as she faces charges for advocating “people subject to occupation and untold suffering.”
“It is with complete disbelief that I confirm that I have been charged with two offenses under Jersey’s ‘Terrorism Law 2002’ for allegedly inviting support for a proscribed organization. I cannot say much at this stage, but I will say that I absolutely refute these allegations and will fight to clear my name,” the campaigner said in a statement.
“I remain firm in my commitment to the recognition and application of international law, including the European Convention on Human Rights, which seems to be under increasing threat. Our ability to freely express ourselves is a fundamental part of any democracy and our right to do so is being undermined by this weaponization of legislation,” she added.
What the hell are @JerseyPolice playing at using terrorism to silence Natalie Strecker, a longstanding dedicated peace activist? Who is leaning on them?

Carrying signs that backed Strecker’s campaign, scores of protesters gathered outside the States of Jersey Police headquarters in support of the 49-year-old activist.
Many chanted “justice for Natalie,” and several cars honked as they passed by.
Having tirelessly exposed the crimes of Israel’s occupation and campaigned for a ceasefire in its Gaza genocide, the activist was first arrested in November last year shortly after returning from a peace trip to the West Asia region.
The charges are viewed as a sign of the British government’s continuing escalation of its war on anti-genocide journalists and activists by abusing poorly-written anti-terror legislation to raid and arrest them.
The Western governments have been a staunch supporter of the Israeli regime’s genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
The brutal campaign was temporarily stopped on Sunday after a ceasefire agreement that brought an end to more than 15 months of aggression massacring upwards of 47,000 people.
