Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi (L) meets with Qatrai Minister of State for International Cooperation Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad in Doha on March 3, 2025.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has held talks with Qatari officials during a visit to the Persian Gulf littoral state.

In an X post on Monday, Gharibabadi said that during his one-day trip to Doha, he met with Qatrai Minister of State for International Cooperation Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad and Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi.

Gharibabadi added that during the meetings, the two sides discussed Iran-Qatar relations, as well as issues of mutual interest, and explored ways to develop and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The senior Iranian diplomat also noted that he had toured Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee and agreed with its chair that the rights institutions of both countries share their experience.

Iran and Qatar have enjoyed booming economic and political ties since mid-2017, when Tehran offered its full support for Doha after it came under a blockade by several Arab states.

Qatar has played a mediating role in several regional issues, including those related to Iran.

The two countries are planning to increase the volume of their mutual trade exchanges to US$1 billion annually, latest reports say.
