Thousands of European protesters joined US “Hands-Off” rallies to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump and his billionaire advisor Elon Musk’s interference in European political affairs.
On Saturday, protesters in major European cities, including Paris, London, and Berlin, rallied against Musk Trump’s open support for far-right political parties.
Protesters said Musk and Trump have contributed to the erosion of democratic norms and social systems in European countries.
“Elon Musk must no longer be allowed to undermine democratic structures unhindered,” said one of the rally’s organizers.
On the same day, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets in all 50 US states to participate in the “Hands Off!” rallies, a series of demonstrations aimed at denouncing Trump and Musk.
The coordinated day of action saw nearly 500,000 demonstrators gathering in over 1,200 locations across the United States, including all 50 state capitals, as well as major cities such as New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
The US protests were organized in response to growing concerns about the Trump administration’s policies and the influence of Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on the government’s decision-making processes.
Since Trump’s victory in the US election, Musk has frequently meddled in Europe’s political affairs and often has weighed in on behalf of far-right groups.
Musk has also raised concern from mainstream European leaders who have accused him of agitating the Continent’s politics with comments on his social platform X, where he has 218 million followers.
In Paris, demonstrators gathered at Place de la Republique and displayed banners with messages like “Resist Tyrant,” “Rule of Law,” and “Feminists for Freedom not Fascism.”
Protesters also gathered in central London as part of the global demonstrations against Musk and Trump’s administration.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Berlin and Frankfurt on Saturday to protest against Trump and Musk’s policies.
In central Berlin, protesters rallied against what they described as Trump’s attacks on freedom, democracy, and human rights.
The demonstration, organized by environmental movement Fridays for Future and activist group Campact, was part of the global protest campaign under the hashtag #TeslaTakedown.
“Resistance is slowly forming against this inhumane, idiotic policy of Donald Trump,” said Timothy Kautz, organizer of the Frankfurt protest.
Musk and Trump have long expressed their support for Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party (AFD). In late January, during a video conference, Musk told a gathering of thousands of AFD supporters in the eastern city of Halle that their party was “the best hope for the future of Germany.”
Similar to the GOP under Trump’s leadership, the AFD opposes immigration, denies climate change, and has declared war on a political establishment and mainstream media it condemns as censorious.
Data showed on April 3, 2025, that Tesla sales have plunged across Europe, especially in Germany, even though the broader electric car market has significantly grown.
