Israeli authorities issued a house arrest order for 23-year-old freed Palestinian detainee Ahmad Manasra until Sunday, just hours after his release following nine-and-a-half years in Israeli prisons.
Israel on Thursday released who Ahmad developed schizophrenia during his nine-and-a-half years in prison.
Doctors said he developed schizophrenia in solitary confinement and tried to harm himself and others.
Ahmad was arrested at the age of 13 in occupied East al-Quds and sentenced to 10 years in Israeli prisons.
In 2015, Israeli forces detained Ahmad, from Beit Hanina in occupied East al-Quds, when he was only 13 years old, and shot dead his 15-year-old cousin, Hassan Manasra, over an alleged stabbing attack against Israeli settlers in the settlement of Pisgat Ze’ev.
Ahmad’s family has categorically dismissed the accusation.
Ahmad was run over by a car and beaten and taunted by Israeli passers-by. A graphic video of Ahmad lying in the street, bleeding from the head while Israelis taunted him, garnered millions of views.
Since his detention, Ahmad has been subjected to brutal conditions, including ruthless interrogation tactics.
Since then, his physical and psychological health has deteriorated, Palestinian sources said.
According to the sources, he is in a severe health condition and has a head injury that he sustained during a physical assault during his arrest.
His imprisonment in solitary confinement for long periods also exacerbated his psychological health, leading to a diagnosis of schizophrenia because of the ill-treatment.
In another incident, a teenager from the occupied West Bank who was held in an Israeli prison for six months without being charged died last month after collapsing in unclear circumstances.
Israeli jail authorities keep Palestinian prisoners under deplorable conditions, lacking proper hygienic standards.
Palestinian inmates have also been subjected to systematic torture, harassment, and repression.
Hundreds of inmates, including women and minors, have been incarcerated under the practice of so-called administrative detention.
Some prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to 11 years.
Under its policy of administrative detention, the occupying regime detains Palestinians without trial or charge for up to six months, a period that can be extended an indefinite number of times.
