Israeli occupation forces have detained crew members of Palestine TV while they were reporting near the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, which has faced continuous incursions and assaults for the past 82 days.

Local sources told the official Palestinian news agency WAFA that journalist Amna Belalo and cameraman Tareq Abu Zaid were assaulted and detained by Israeli soldiers during a live broadcast covering the ongoing military offensive in the camp on Saturday afternoon.

The forces also seized their press and personal equipment and prevented them from continuing their coverage.

Video footage circulating online showed the moment Israeli soldiers attacked Belalo and Abu Zaid while they were carrying out their journalistic duties, attempting to report live from the scene.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate expressed its strong condemnation of the attack and arrest of the two journalists, along with the confiscation of their equipment. Additionally, the syndicate noted that gunfire was directed at the journalists.

The Israeli military maintains its ban on media access to the Jenin refugee camp, impeding coverage of the ongoing military offensive and the extensive demolitions taking place.

Local sources estimate that around 600 homes have been demolished, and nearly 3,000 housing units are now unfit for habitation.

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza in October 2023, more than 944 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops and settlers, and more than 7,000 others have been injured in the West Bank.

Last July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared that Israel’s long-standing occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal, demanding the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
