Iran hails its determined tandem efforts alongside China to secure fulfillment of both the countries’ mutual interests.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks on X, former Twitter, on Tuesday, the same day when the Islamic Republic’s top diplomat Abbas Aragchi departed for Beijing for talks and consultations with senior Chinese officials.

“With a shared outlook on many international issues, and by relying on mutual trust and respect, Iran and China are resolutely advancing their efforts to safeguard the mutual interests of their nations,” the spokesperson wrote.

Baghaei cited ongoing, high-level consultations between the two sides as a clear testament to the determination of both of the countries’ senior officials to broaden cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

He further highlighted the enduring nature of the Sino-Iranian relations, most notably throughout the decades that have passed since the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.

“The relationship between Iran and China is a civilizational and historical one that has steadily evolved and expanded over the past five decades.”

Araghchi had last visited China late last year. Upon arriving in the Chinese capital on December 27, he had published an article in the Asian powerhouse’s official People’s Daily, in which he had discussed the promising nature of the bilateral relations.

Stating that his visit to China had marked the beginning of a “golden half-century” of the ties, the top diplomat had also said that the upcoming five decades would include endeavor towards further enhancement of bilateral strategic and pragmatic cooperation.

The countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement in 2021, which outlines details of their plan to advance their strategic ties throughout the next 25 years.

China remains Iran’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching significant levels despite external pressures.

Both countries have faced illegal and unilateral sanctions imposed by external actors, most notably the United States. Tehran and Beijing deem the bans to be counterproductive, while singling them out for being too weak to adversely affect their respective economies.

As well as indulging in ample bilateral cooperation and interaction, the two sides engage in joint efforts in multilateral organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) — a political, economic, international security, and defense organization and the BRICS group of nations that also gathers Brazil, India, and South Africa among other countries.

Both the nations have expressed a shared commitment to upholding international law, combating terrorism, and promoting stability in the West Asia region.
