Hamas has warned that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has reached unprecedented levels due to the persisting Israeli blockade, calling for urgent global action to end the occupying regime’s siege in the besieged territory threatening the lives of over 2 million people.

Hamas made the remarks in a statement on Tuesday, as Israel has been preventing the entry of all lifesaving supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel into Gaza for the past 50 days.

“After 50 days of total closure of the crossings by the Zionist occupation army, the Gaza Strip is facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe marked by severe shortages of basic life necessities, including food, water, fuel, and vital medicine such as children’s vaccines,” Hamas said.

“This situation is pushing the entire population into the brink of famine and spiraling health disaster, compounded by daily massacres against innocent civilians in neighborhoods, shelters, and tents, alongside the systematic destruction of hospitals and civilian facilities,” it added.

The resistance movement further noted that the total Israeli siege imposed on over 2.25 million people and the use of starvation as a weapon of war constitute a clear violation of international law, adding that the “continuation of such crimes reflects a profound political, moral, and humanitarian failure by the international community.”

Hamas further called on the international community to intervene and exert pressure on the Israeli regime to open the crossings and allow the entry of all lifesaving supplies into Gaza.

It also urged Arab and Muslim countries to take immediate action to break the siege imposed on Palestinians in Gaza and open the crossings.

Israel waged its brutal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, but it failed to achieve its declared objectives despite killing 51,240 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and at least 116,931 others.

The usurping entity accepted longstanding negotiation terms by Hamas under a Gaza ceasefire, which began on January 19.

However, Israel unilaterally abandoned the truce on March 2, cutting off humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. It also resumed its deadly bombing campaign and redeployed troops to the territory.

Rights groups have condemned the Israeli blockade on vital supplies, which is now in its eighth week, as a crime against humanity and a flagrant violation of international law.
