Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between Tehran and Jakarta in a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart.
Araghchi underscored the need to follow up on the previously agreed commitments and called for intensified high-level contacts to help realize those goals in his Thursday talk with Sugiono.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments.
Araghchi stressed that the continuation of the occupation and killing of Palestinians by Israeli regime is the most pressing global issue today.
“The Zionist regime, with full support from the US and some Western countries, has turned Gaza and the West Bank into scenes of genocide and torture against innocent Palestinians,” he said.
The death toll from the US-Israeli genocidal war on Gaza has risen to 51,355, with nearly 117,000 Palestinians injured as the Israeli genocidal campaign on Gaza continues.
Araghchi pointed out that despite arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and provisional measures by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to halt the genocide, “the horrific crimes of this regime continue.”
He also condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon and Syria, as well as US military strikes in Yemen.
“At a time when Israeli atrocities and US aggression in Yemen have pushed the region into unprecedented insecurity, it is expected that Islamic countries step up efforts to halt these crimes and deliver humanitarian aid to the oppressed people of Palestine.”
Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran at both bilateral and multilateral levels, welcoming Iran’s proposals for strengthening relations.
He echoed Araghchi’s concern over the “dire humanitarian conditions” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, emphasizing the urgent need for a united stance among Islamic countries to implement an immediate ceasefire and open humanitarian corridors to assist Palestinians.
Sugiono also thanked Araghchi for sharing updates on indirect talks between Iran and the US, expressing hope that “with all parties committed to diplomacy, the process will yield positive outcomes.”
