Thousands took to the streets of Madrid on Sunday to demand the right to dignified housing and to call for urgent solutions from authorities regarding what they describe as a “housing emergency.”
Protesters are calling for immediate action to address rising rental prices, housing shortages, and the impact these issues have on working-class families. They are urging the local government to take responsibility and act on policies that would alleviate the housing crisis and provide affordable housing for all.
The demonstration comes at a time when the average price of housing in Spain reached a historic high in the last quarter of 2024, 12.5% above the record levels of 2007, according to Colegio de Registradores.
