আর্থিক খাতে বিস্ময়কর দুর্নীতি করেছে শেখ হাসিনা সরকার। উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পে হয়েছে পুকুর চুরি। রাজনৈতিক চাঁদাবাজি, ঘুষ এবং মূল্যস্ফীতির কাছে হার মেনেছে বাজেট। গুটিকয়েক ব্যবসায়ীর নিয়ন্ত্রণে চলে যাওয়ায়, অস্থিতিশীল হয় পণ্য বাজার। অর্থনৈতিক শ্বেতপত্র প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, ব্যাংক খাতের লুট হওয়া অর্থ দিয়ে তৈরি করা যেত ২৪টি পদ্মা সেতু। বিশ্লেষকরা মনে করেন, সংস্কারমূলক উদ্যোগ বাস্তবায়ন করে তছনছ হওয়া অর্থনীতিকে টেনে তুলতে হবে।
দুর্ভোগের অপর নাম হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে কমলাপুর-মুগদা সড়ক। খানা-খন্দে ভরা সড়কে যানবাহনের ধীরগতির কারণে হয় তীব্র যানজট, ঘটে নানা দুর্ঘটনা। পরিস্থিতি এতাটাই খারাপ যে ভাড়ায় চালিত যানবাহন যেতে রাজি হয় না এই সড়কে।এলাকাবাসীর অভিযোগ সিটি কর্পোরেশনের উদাসীনতার কারণেই দুর্ভোগ পোহাতে হচ্ছে তাদের। দক্ষিণ সিটি কর্পোরেশন জানায়, কিছুটা দেরি হলেও জানুয়ারি মাসের মাঝেই শুরু হবে মুগদা-কমলাপুর সড়কের সংস্কার কাজ।

The South City Corporation said that although there is a slight delay, the renovation work of the Mugda-Kamalapur road will start by mid-January.
