Timothy Burns, a professor at Baylor University in the U.S., embarked on a journey to central China’s Henan Province.
Henan means ‘the south of the river’, indicating that the province lies to the south of China’s Yellow River, it is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization due to its location on the Yellow River. Burns was impressed by the rich historical heritage. As it had been the political, economic and cultural center of the country for more than 3,000 years, more than 20 dynasties based their capitals here and the four great inventions of ancient China all originated from Henan. These cultural signifiers have had profound significance in the history of Chinese civilization. He also witnessed China’s modernization during the trip. Compared with motorcycles in the U.S., Burns was amazed by how quiet Chinese electric bikes are, while people ride in their lanes. “Chinese are advancing rapidly in things like AI, and that will be needed for the new energy sources, so I congratulate China.”
