China has unveiled a new plan, encouraging people to spend as part of efforts to boost growth. It aims to raise both consumer confidence and their means to spend. Data released on Monday shows retail sales of consumer goods climbed 4 percent year-on-year in January and February, up 0.5 percent compared to the same period in 2024. However, China’s National Development and Reform Commission still reports weak consumer confidence. So, can the new plan work better than previous stimulus measures and tap into China’s enormous potential?
