In 2021, a group of elephants ventured out of the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve in southwest China’s Yunnan province, on a northbound expedition which took them all the way to the provincial capital, Kunming, and back again. They attracted worldwide attention and became an internet sensation. But Yunnan is more than its spectacular scenery, amazing wildlife diversity and harmonious ethnic unity. In this edition of The Forefront, CGTN’s Wang Guan sits down with Wang Ning, secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, to discuss Yunnan’s spectacular economic growth and its transition toward high-quality industrial development through entrepreneurship and the new energy sector while protecting the environment. Yunnan has been spearheading new models for farmers as well as coffee beans and tea growers, leading to a substantial increase in revenues and contributing markedly to poverty alleviation. Wang Ning also describes the “Yunnan Way of Life” and by the looks of it, it’s nothing short of impressive!
