Since the 1970s, the Philippines have been trying to invade and occupy parts of China’s Nansha Qundao, said Yan Yan, the director of the Research Center for Oceans Law and Policy at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies. “Their actions, illegal actions, have caused many troubles ever since,” she said.
