Located in Hepu County, Beihai City, in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Hepu Han Dynasty Cultural Museum houses over 5,200 cultural relics from the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD).
One of the museum’s most notable pieces is a Persian ceramic pot, which bears witness to the flourishing trade and cultural exchange along the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
On April 19, 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Hepu Han Dynasty Cultural Museum during an inspection tour of Guangxi. He remarked, “The cultural relics on display here, connected to the ancient Maritime Silk Road, are all reflections of history and culture. We should let cultural relics speak, let history speak, and let culture speak.”
In line with Xi’s words, generations of cultural relic protection workers have implemented innovative practices, adopting a range of creative measures to “let cultural relics speak” and actively promote mutual learning and exchange among civilizations under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Today, Hepu remains a key transportation hub and distribution center in the region. The Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, where Hepu is situated, actively integrates into the Belt and Road Initiative, serving as an important node in the new international land-sea trade corridor.
