'Ice Legend' takes China-Russia friendship to new heights

More than 10 Russian figure skaters, some of whom are former world champions and Olympic medalists, provided a visual feast for Chinese sports fans at “Ice Legend: World Champion Show 2024,” a two-day tour performance held at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing during this year’s Spring Festival. In this edition of the Hub, Wang Guan talks to Evgenia Medvedeva, a two-time gold medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships, and to Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, the 2015 world champion, to discuss the show’s significance two years after the Beijing Winter Olympics and asks them how it feels to reconnect with the Chinese audience. Wang also talks to Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, the pair winners of the silver medal in the ice-dancing event at the Beijing Winter Olympics, who provided a stunning performance at the venue. “China is a signature place for us,” they say, as Wang asks them about the warm reception they always get from their fans whenever they perform in China. And Tatiana Volosozhar, the 2013 Figure Skating World Champion, tells Wang how important the China-Russia Year of Sports Exchanges is for nurturing figure skating talents and learning from each other’s skills. Also, Wang learns how to jump and spin under the guidance of Tuktamysheva.
