In an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the China Development Forum 2025, Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs tells CGTN’s Wang Guan that U.S. President Donald Trump may end up isolating the United States because protectionism is not being well received around the world. Ironically, Sachs says Trump’s protectionism could inadvertently strengthen the Chinese economy and push China and Europe closer together. “The world is not a zero-sum struggle,” he continues, adding that open trade between the U.S. and China has been mutually beneficial for both sides for decades. Also, on this special episode of The Hub, Professor Sachs comments on the U.S.’s role in the Russia-Ukraine crisis and explains why sending armaments from the U.S. to the Taiwan region is a dangerous “provocation.”
