Total potential U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods have now surged to 145%. In response, China has raised tariffs on U.S. products to 125% and stated it will disregard any further tariffs hikes from Washington. Meanwhile, the U.S. is maintaining a 10% universal baseline tariff and placed additional tariffs on a 90-day pause window for potential negotiations. At a televised cabinet meeting, President Trump appeared to acknowledge the “transition difficulties,” while claiming that investors were pleased with how the U.S. economy was being managed. But are investors truly happy with the current direction of U.S. policies? How is the rest of the world reacting to this escalating volatility? And what are the broader implications of these tariffs for global trade and the world economy?
