On March 12, the European Commission announced that, starting next month, the EU will impose counter tariffs on 26 billion euros ($28 billion) worth of U.S. goods in response to blanket U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum. The EU’s countermeasures will be rolled out in two phases, beginning April 1 and fully taking effect on April 13. In light of the EU’s counter tariffs on American goods, CGTN Stringer interviewed the French public to gather the locals’ insights on this matter.
Most people expressed support for the EU’s countermeasures and stated that the EU should respond and take a stance. “Global trade is interconnected, and by disrupting the global economy, Donald Trump is creating a disaster for his own country,” said a resident named Christophe.
