French President Emmanuel Macron recently expressed his hopes for an “Olympic truce” during the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics this summer. This comes amid the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Hamas, and the recent tensions between Israel and Iran. How will his idea be received? Can the world temporarily put aside their differences to celebrate friendly international sportsmanship? Could such an “Olympic truce” actually help in de-escalating the many conflicts around the world?
