Israel killed over 700 Palestinians in the bombardment on Monday night on the Gaza Strip — the biggest number of fatalities in a 24-hour period since the regime launched its aggression against the besieged territory.
Gaza’s health ministry released the figures on Tuesday.
The ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra said it was the biggest number of deaths in a 24-hour period since October 7.
The total death toll in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank has now risen to 5,791, including at least 2,360 children.
The number of those wounded in Israel’s attacks in the past 17 days has also passed 18,000 on Tuesdays.
The soaring number of casualties from the regime’s escalating bombardment comes as medical facilities across the territory were forced to close because of bombing damage, according to health officials.
More than 40 medical centers had to halt operations after they ran out of fuel or were damaged by Israeli air raids, said the spokesman.
The bombings have destroyed thousands of buildings and left over one million people displaced in one of the most densely populated places in the world, which is largely deprived of water, food and other basic supplies due to Israel’s blockade.
Aid agencies warned that a humanitarian catastrophe was unfolding in the besieged enclave.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has voiced concern about “clear violations of international humanitarian law” in the Gaza Strip.
He told the 15-member UN Security Council, ”The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
