ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf is likely to get an extension as the board’s supremo till the end of the ongoing World Cup 2023.

As per sources, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has received the summary from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) for Ashraf’s extension as PCB top head and will soon decide upon his future.

It is pertinent to know that Ashraf — whose four-month term is set to expire tomorrow (Saturday) — had replaced Najam Sethi as PCB supremo in July earlier this year.

The final decision to replace or extend Ashraf as PCB chief will be taken after the completion of the ongoing mega-event whose final is set to take place on November 19, the sources added.

The development comes as the current PCB top head is facing allegations of flagrant misdoings and unconstitutional decisions from a member of his own management committee as his tenure nears an end.

Zulfiqar Malik, a member of the management committee, raised these allegations in an email addressed to Ashraf and the management committee, ESPNcricinfo reported.

Meanwhile, former star all-rounder Shahid Afridi is likely to get a “key role” in the PCB following his meeting with the prime minister, The News reported on Thursday.

The board and Ashraf have been engulfed in controversies following the resignation of now-former chief selector Inzamam ul Haq, and Green Shirts’ skipper Babar Azam’s private chat with a senior PCB official being leaked.
