US President Joe Biden said that he tends to debate Donald Trump twice this year in June and September, however, his campaign said he would not participate in the traditional format established by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

Consequently, both of them laid out their own terms instead, according to NPR.

On the Truth Social platform, former president Trump responded that he was “ready and willing” to debate Biden at the two proposed times.

Because of concerns about the timing of debates and accusations of bias, the Republican National Committee had said in April 2022 that it would quit the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Hosted by broadcast organisations, 81-year-old Biden is willing to take part in two debates, as per campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon’s statement in a letter that spelled out the president’s terms.

O’Malley Dillon said that the commission, which has hosted debates since 1988, is “out of step with changes in the structure of our elections and the interests of voters.”

Democrat Biden also added with a post on X, formerly Twitter, that he had “received and accepted an invitation from CNN for June 27”.

There would be three debates in September and October, as the commission had announced back in November.
