China builds its first interplanetary scintillation telescope to monitor space weather

China’s first interplanetary scintillation array (IPS array), a radio telescope used for monitoring space weather, passed technical tests on May 10 in North China’s Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, marking the completion of its construction.

This homegrown telescope is a major part of the second phase of China’s Meridian Space Weather Monitoring Project, a ground-based comprehensive network to monitor the space environment. The IPS array consists of a main observation station and two auxiliary stations.
