Forest fires affect southern Ecuador

Firefighters from three cities in southern Ecuador were trying to put out fires caused by forest fires on Thursday. Local authorities in the canton of Giron, in southern Ecuador, reported that some 140 hectares were affected by the fire. The flames could be seen advancing due to the intense summer heat and the strong winds registered in the last few days. The Fire Department of the city of Cuenca said that dozens of firefighters are fighting the blaze that began on Tuesday, but until Thursday morning, it could not be controlled.
