The term “zun” refers to a wide range of ancient Chinese ritual wine vessels, with one particular type depicting various animals, both real and mythical, celebrating the wonder of life and the deep connection between man and nature through intricate techniques and enduring materials. This bronze zun relic is particularly captivating: resembling a foal, with horns on its head and wings on its belly, it combines elements of the dragon, phoenix and tiger. This creates an enchanting blend of adorability and nobility, making it both charming and majestic. Now on display at the Chinese Archaeological Museum in Beijing, this exquisite treasure from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC) served as a dowry to convey best wishes for a married daughter some 3,000 years ago.
